,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"because I am playing a Brechtian story teller,"

The persistant and insistant Raccoon, scoffing kibbles, but still hungry for information, needed to know what animal that might be, the invisible one telling a Brechtian style tale ?

Still trying to get my head around the meaning too, Moose ! - Humorous, cynical, childlike, simplistic.

Allright!!!  The Great, The Wise, The Ever Watchful Goldie has joined in the party!  Congrats to The Great, The Wise. . .  And the Buba Goldie is so wise.  We are not worthy!

Lin, you clever devil.  You are a teacher beyond what is immediately obvious.  I had to Google "Brechtian storyteller" and of course, now know more.  I didn't necessarily understand everything I read . . .

Being that there is some confusion over who's who and because I am playing a Brechtian story teller, we now pause for a cast list...so far anyways.

........... Roxy paused for a moment and wondered where her friend Helene was.  Helene was the coolest Panda cub and they shared some thing's in common, they both had markings around their eyes and they both thought about BAG's.  Last Roxy knew was that Helene was dreaming about Yellowstone park, but since that wasn't happening for awhile yet, she knew Helene must be around somewhere ??

At last they came to the deep, the dark woods. Why dark?  Well because the morning was still over there behind the hill.  Roxy poured her persistent questions out to The Great, The Wise, The Ever Watchful Goldie, not to mention everything she had done since last summer. Meanwhile Sebastian was going for his morning spin and making everyone quite dizzy. But could Goldie sort it all out and come up with the answer?

Well, tomorrow turned out to be today, and no one had really doubted that the insistent, persistent Roxy would give up her quest.  Especially not Sarah who sweetly suggested they go see The Great, The Wise, The Ever Watchful, Goldie, and ask if she knew what had happened to THE BEAR. They set off as the night was giving way to the day.  "Onward and Upward" said Sebastian, his favorite saying.  But will  The Great, The Wise and the Ever Watchful Goldie know what happened to THE BEAR?

The Brothers Chatz invited everyone to share kibbles for dinner, even the real squirrel came, along with Rita and her bunnies Boo and Hoo.  But it was clear from Roxy eating only 3,458 kibbles that she just didn't have any appetite at all.

Karen became wolfishly concerned. Kamatz was tired of being called Kamez, Sebastian was singing "Oh How I Miss My Southern Hammock" to Lily and it was clear they all just needed a good night's rest.

"Oh my knees" said Kemoose, when fortunately his young and still awkward grand daughter came to fetch him. "I have LISTENED" he told Roxy before he left.  "G'bye Kemooch" (she had a habit of getting names wrong when she was distressed) "let me know if you hear anything."  Roxy was dragging tail.

Re-posting to make sure we don't lose the original story line subject.  Guess I am Kemoose - I do hope so.  They are kind of ungainly things yet are fun to watch.  They spend a lot of time almost motionless, just watching, listening, and "thinking."  Wonder if they really think about anything?

This is really great!  So much fun to "restart" and introduce some new characters.  Kemoose wonders if the fish skeleton is from the he/she bear or is left over from Roxy's lunch.  Is that a clue to Roxy's quest?

Well Roxy was exhaustive in her search and asked everyone who would take the (somewhat lengthy) time to listen.  Kemoose was one of those who could listen forever...but did he know the answer to Roxy's question?

But little ones, didn't you want the beginning?  What is a story without beginnings?

    THE LONG SLEEP

Once upon a recent time, the persistent, insistent Roxy noticed THE BEAR was missing. She gathered together her motley group of friends to ask if they knew where the bear was.  Some were puzzled, some were distracted and others knew but weren't saying (you can guess who).  Sebastian, the Quaker parrot (and friends don't ask me what he was doing in Alaska, doesn't everyone end up there?) brightly said he thought THE BEAR had flown the coop. Even Lily knew there was SOMETHING wrong with that. Roxy decided she would have to look around.  Do you think she discovered THE BEAR?

................. The Bear (whose name and sex no one knew of yet) wasn't dreaming about honey pots though...........The Bear was dreaming about fishing for Salmon in the place the Bear knew and loved most of all - McNeil River Falls.  In his dream, the Bear could hear the river rushing over the  falls and could taste the fresh fish as he slept. The Bear could see all his friends fishing for the Salmon too.  The subadults and the less assertive Bears were downstream and the older more assertive Bears jostling for place at the top of the Falls.  As the Bear dreamt of the sunrise, with the Augustine Volcano smoldering in the distance, thoughts of how much sleep he/she needed, floated around in it's head.  Jumbled letters of the months of the year spun around the Volcano and as he slept he was trying to catch them to arrange them in his head.  LLYYJYLUU LLL - He/she had to stay in his dream to sort them out !  He/she needed to know when he was going to wake up and go fishing with his/her friends.

Meanwhile, Karens dream had progressed from the Bear reaching for the Honey Pot, to how she could protect the Bear when the Bee's came out to sting him/her.  She also was wondering how to design the BEAR PAW IS MOVING alert sign, what would she use to make it big enough for everyone to see.  The Raccoon (and Sebastian) were still dreaming about the Honey Pot and admiring the Bears persistance of retrival. (Those two always thought of the same) Patty's dream was filled with curiosty as to how the Honey got there in the first place and if  Bear's really did eat honey, Sarah was feeling safe as she dreamt about Kamez and  Kamez was dreaming about his favourite book, but was curious about his dream, since every page held a picture of Sarah.

As the group slept, a snowflake gently settled on the brightly coloured BAG's which were lying on the ground.  (Note: this was odd, since no one knows yet if this story is set inside or outside but this is of little importance).  What was important were the BAG's - lots of them, which appeared to be growing in numbers.  A huge range of colours and a variety of shapes and sizes.  From each BAG an odd sound emitted, like the tapping of a keyboard from a computer.  The BAG's seemed to be moving, and the tap tapping noise rose louder and fell silent at all different times. Where did they come from, no one knows, but they were there, right there next to the BEAR as if in some way protecting him/her as he/she slept.

"COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS BEAR IS A MALE OR FEMALE" boomed a voice in the persistant Raccoon's head..'AND I NEED TO KNOW HIS/HER NAME".......The voice in her head was so loud it woke the Raccoon up, which was annoying, since she had wanted to wait in her dream to see if the Bear got the honey.  Rubbing her masked eyes and blinking, she sat up and was astonished to see the brightly coloured BAG's lying on the ground.  She rubbed her eyes again and wondered why she hadn't noticed the BAG's before.  They were incredibly noisy she thought, all that tap tap tapping, maybe the noise will wake the Bear ?  She grew excited, Whoo Hooo, she just had to tell someone straight away and headed for Sebastian and clever Kamez................She had a plan, maybe the group could move all the BAG's closer to the Bear's ears and maybe, just maybe this would be enough to wake the Bear up!

But you knew Sebastian was a clown!  What a joker!  And so they slept.  Is this the end of the story?

........... well not yet, because that persistant little Raccoon couldn't get to sleep.  She was restless and wanted to join in with Sebastian's antic's.  So, you guessed it, once THOSE TWO got together, that was the end of everyones peace.  Except of course for the Bear, who slept on, blissfully unaware of all the din the others were making.....Then suddenly the Bear stirred........the rest fell silent and all eyes fixed on the Bear. No one dared to move, (which was extremly hard for Sebastian and his persistant masked friend).  They watched on in anticipation, as the Bear stetched out his relatively short but powerful leg, which had been previously used as a pillow for his head.  The Bear had a magnificent colour to his fur.  It was a mixture of beige, cinnamon, red and blond, with silvery tips, which identified him as the Grizzly Bear that he was.  Their eyes moved down as he stretched out his paw to display a sole, a heel, a pad and five toes. "Just like humans" thought Patty the curious one. Worrying sweet Sarah gulped, because attached to his five toes, were five yellow/brown claws.  Kamez had to do something, so he whispered to the others, "Don't worry, he uses his claws for digging up roots and bulbs and excavating his den. We are not a threat to him so he won't use them on us"  Sarah knew Kamez was right, she also thought he was very clever and very sweet.  Karen looked on quietly.  She grew concerned.  She loved the Bear and her new found friends, but thought that they could be in danger when the Bear next stirred and that powerful paw stretched out.  She decided to put out a BEAR PAW IS MOVING ALERT, next time the Bear stirred. The friends watched on, but the powerful leg and five toed paw stayed where it was.  The persistant Raccoon looked disappointed, as it became clear the Bear was still fast asleep.  The excitement was over, and the friends began to settle down for the night. There was certainly alot more to this magnificent sleeping Grizzly Bear than they realised.  Why was he sleeping so long they wondered They couldn't wait for him to wake up so they could find out.  One thing was for sure though, no one was going to volunteer to wake him up and they just had to wait.

and this is what they dreamt of as they slept:
