I will post a reminder here for everybody to check that thread...it's gonna be a long day, I'm afraid.

Until this is over – for the meantime, until it rears its ugly head again – there are many wonderful websites that offer excellent recipes for homemade dog/cat food that’s simple to make & you can freeze portions for a few days…which makes it simple for you.  Just a thought.

    Dear Not Specified

Oi ! I took offence to that comment.

Karen is a very kind and caring person who would not in any way want to disrupt anyone's enjoyment of the wildlife on these wildcams and within the forums.  Which is why she has posted this Pet Food Alert on this thread.  One to alert others who may have missed it and the other so as not to disrupt the threads with an "off topic" issue.

The BAG thread is a common thread throughout each of the National Geographic Forums.  It was originally created in consideration to others posting on the forums.

The BAG threads general purpose are to provide a "place" for those of us who have "met" during our wildcam experiences to keep in touch and to discuss "off topic" issues, with the deliberate intention not to disrupt other discussions on the forums.

Cheers for now from Rox Wink

    Bears HB 127 is DEAD...

    Name: Karen/California
    E-mail: Not specified

Thank you for writing in about HB 127. Rep. Seaton does not plan to pursue HB 127 at this point. The bill was introduced to prevent the bear hunt authorized by the BOG in 2005, which Rep. Seaton believed to be an illogical board ruling. The board responded to the massive public outcry in making their decision to rescind the hunt and keep the Kamishak Special Use Area closed. HB 127 was in the background of this debate, and provided some additional leverage. With the favorable ruling by the board, HB 127 will no longer be pursued.

At least the bears WILL be safe for another 2 years.

During that time, I'm sure the good people in Alaska will be working hard to put forth new legislation to keep the bears PERMANENTLY safe.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Thank you for helping the bears.

    BAGs Crane Adventure...

    Name: Karen/California
    E-mail: Not specified

Hi Gang, well...just when we thought we had a victory for our bears, it looks like they're back up for grabs again!  Please help!

    We Need Your Help…

    Rep. Seaton Waffles on Support

    for McNeil-Katmai Bears

The McNeil Bear saga continues.  Representative Paul Seaton of Homer is waffling on his support for bears by contemplating withdrawal of HB 127, which would provide permanent protection to these bears.

The plan to hunt McNeil-Katmai Bears in 2007 was recently halted by the Board of Game.  Worldwide public support was overwhelming for this action.  Reasonable people have a rare opportunity to applaud the Board of Game for stopping the proposed hunt.  Be Aware!  Next years’ Board of Game meeting could put the hunt right back on the table.  A permanent fix for the issue was on the table until recently: HB127.

Rep. Seaton from Homer introduced HB 127, legislation that would have added state lands adjacent to the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary to the existing Sanctuary.  Adding these lands to the sanctuary simply makes good sense, providing the permanent protection that these bears require.

On March 9, 2007, Rep. Seaton informed us that he has withdrawn support for his bear protection bill.  In his recent press release, Rep. Seaton states that “The Bears of the McNeil River area support a popular bear viewing industry that injects millions of dollars into the economy of Southcentral Alaska each summer.”  Constituents concerned about a viable Southcentral Alaska economy and bear viewers worldwide wonder why Rep. Seaton has suddenly acquired cold feet and withdrawn support for his own bill!

Seaton’s legislative priorities are puzzling.  He has worked long and hard pushing “gooeyduck” legislation that has questionable merit for his district, little economic value for anyone in Southcentral Alaska, and flaunts Mother Nature’s rules by allowing introduction of nonindigenous species to Kachemak Bay and Southcentral Alaska.

Yet, he bails on his commitment to protect McNeil-Katmai bears, recommending to his supporters that we claim victory as a result of the recent Board of Game decision and stand down.

It is as if the bears are serving time on death row, but have now been granted a temporary stay of execution.

Please contact Rep. Seaton and 'cc' the other contacts below. Urge him to stand up and fight for McNeil River bears and our economy.
