I was just on the Let's Chat thread and tried to refresh and got this error message:

Sorry, there was a problem with your last request!

This message does come up once in a while, but not all the time. Thanks.

It sometimes takes minutes to post a message.  It is worse thatn the previous version/server!  Could you please, please do something about it?

Mary said you would in the summer, but the summer is three months long...

    Thank you!!!

I don't have any answers to these problems, and hope the tech people at NG will be able to solve these things, but thought I would share one little trick I have learned,  with Judy and anyone else who has problems getting back to the right place on the page after checking out a GIF or video.  I was having the same problem, and it was driving me crazy.

Here's the trick:  when you want to look at a video or a GIF on the forum, Right Click on it.  And when the little menu comes up, just put the GIF or video on a completely new page.  When you're done, just close the page...and there you are, right where you want to be, on the same place on the page you were when you decided to look at the GIF or video.

    It's magic.  Wink.

    JudyM:

LAP I am having the some problem.  If I hit the back button on my PC it takes me to top of page.  If I click on a video in the forum, when done it takes me back to top of page instead of to the forum comment I was looking at.

In addition to the above, when I hit the back button, the whole page refreshes instead of going back to the cached copy; in the previous version it did not refresh.  When it is taking so long to load and display a page it is a terrible waste of time to have it refreshing unnecessarily!

Also, more often than not, after making a post, then page refreshes but does NOT show my new post or any other new posts that were made close to the same time.  This requires one to have to refresh the page AGAIN, taking twice as long as it needs to.   Perhaps if the unnecessary refreshes were removed the thread might run considerably faster.  It would certainly be faster from the user's POV.

    Question

When NG changed the Forum to the new format it was a lot quicker than it is nowadays.  Even new threads are not that fast.  Does someone know if adding the colors to the Forum has anything to do with it?

    Firefox connection

Again I will ask this question of the Tech people.  Never got a reply before.  I watch the cam using Firefox normally.  But frequently when the cam freezes for a period of time, I close and re-open the PP site but get a white screen on the "TV" screen.  When I get that it means it won't even try to connect to the cam.  It seems to stay that way for several days and then suddenly Firefox works with the cam again.  Do you know what is causing this?  I forgot to mention when the white screen occurs, I go to IE and open the PP site with no problem.

Thanks, LAP. I have read people mentioning there that it might help.

I do have to apologize for the archive.org reference as being the problem though. I noticed later that it was related to a video there not NG forums.

This morning I noticed that "waiting for archives.org" in the status bar seemed to take a really long time when trying to post on Sights and Sounds. Maybe we could have a new thread for June through December 2008 to speed things up. Just a thought.

Pat, you should check with the other Pondies on the 2008 Sightings & Sounds thread and see if they would like to do another thread for the rest of the year. If so, one of you would start it, not the tech people. That is what we had to do with our Chat thread. The old one was too full and was very slow so Rita started the new thread for us.

     hehehe...

I'm having the same problem with posting and refreshing. I really hope something can be done. Thanks for any help with this matter.

    Re: Posting and refreshing

I have noticed the same thing...when I push the post button, the note at the top of the page will say I have done the last post.  But the actual post does not show up on the page until I have refreshed several times, often three or four times.  While this may not be a major crisis, it does make having a conversation (as you may have noticed, the members here have a lot of conversations!) difficult, as it sometimes takes four or five minutes for the next post comes up, the questions asked or answered, the information passed on.  If something could be done to make posting work a little more smoothly, it would be much appreciated.

     Webmaster.

May I request that you adjust the forum threads "post" button to allow it to add our comments without having to "refresh". The delay between "post" and the need to"refresh" slows the flow of conversation and therefore the enjoyment of the sight.

    Thank you

    Posting and refreshing

Almost every time I post a message, on any thread, I must hit the "Refresh" button at least once, sometimes 3-4 times before my post appears. It is rather strange because at the top of the thread it says that my post was the last one there, but it is not appearing (that I can see) until I do all the refresh stuff. Is there something that can be done about this?

     hehehe...

LAP, on FF and a Mac, the back arrow takes me to the top of the thread. It is really annoying. It doesn't happen on any other sites I go to.

    Please, techies, fix this! TIA

I also would like to ask to have two tech threads...one for the forum and one for  the Pond viewing (the feed, RP, etc.) TIA

I am going to ask again if something can be done so I am taken back to the post that has a link instead of being returned to the top of the thread after viewing. It always worked correctly before the upgrade. TIA

Pat, I'm on a PC and after looking at a link when I hit "back" it takes me to the post that has the link (right back where I started).  Aren't you on a Mac?  Maybe it is something there that does it...???

After Afke rebooted, sound and video are back, but lots of dropped/lost frames still.
