    NG emails

I, and many other Pondies, are receiving overwhelming emails from NG. Every notification of every PM I have received is being sent to my Hotmail account. Some of these are PM's I had deleted from my inbox. I am very disturbed by this. Please fix this problem before I lose my Hotmail account due to spamming.

I was able to post more easily today. My last post went right through. Thanks again for the continuing "tweaking".

Thanks in advance for any feedback,
    Webmaster.

On the whole the forum is running pretty smoothly lately.  The most consistent "problem" is having to refresh, sometimes more than once, after making a post before it will appear.  Once in a while it will take a long time to load a page or get a reply form, but compared to past performance this is minimal at present.

I am also having to refresh up to 4 times before seeing my posts  still. Thanks for keeping up the hard work and asking for feedback.

     Melia Tech.

The post button doesn't post with having to refresh and the preview button will only show written text.  It no longer shows the picture that we are trying to post or even the jpg. I use the preview when ever I'm posting a shot and I miss being able to check what I'm posting.

Well I guess that you could say that now I can't see how badly I have screwed up.

Other wise the forum is going much smoother.

Thanks for all of your work,

    Bonnie

The forums seem much easier to move around in now....easier to move from one thread to another, easier to read back to see what you missed while you were sleeping or working...even easier  to post, although I still need to refresh two or three times for my post to actually appear. Thank you, it is getting better!  Smile

Hi, MeliaTech. Things were going better until yesterday for me. Since then I have had a problem with the reply. It is very slow to respond and then the <p>p> (or whatever it is) come up and takes forever to go away. Then if I want to quote something I have to hit the quote button at least 3 - 4 times before I get the quote to show. Then the box comes up with a check mark in it saying that it will email me of any replies to my post and then I have to uncheck that so I don't get a bunch of emails.

Also, when refreshing on the Let's Chat thread I am often sent to the 2nf page and once I was even sent to the 4th page...???? Don't know what happened there.

Thanks for all your help. Sure wish you could help fix the pic on the live cam, and keep RP from crashing all the time.

     hehehe...

Help Please!!! I was able to view during previous seasons, but this year all I get is a red square, blue triangle, and green spot inside a tiny white box in top left corner of the picture area. I am running IE-XP-sp2 on a fairly new HP-PC

    Thanks,Josephrh

Hi, Josephrh. Have you tried loading the cam from the main NG page to RP? That is how I had to start, then I saved the addy on my favs in RP. Now I just start from there every day.

You can try loading this addy directly into RP and see if that will play for you. Just copy and paste it in RP. Good luck.... sorry about the prior reference to PB... that was a typing error... I have corrected it now.....

Another issue to report, a couple of us have been trying to change our avatars but each time you put in a URL and hit update, we get the screen message "sorry, there was a problem with your request".  Can someone please look into this? Thank you.

    Forum issues

Since the forum was "fixed" over the Labor Day weekend, we have all been having the same problems. . . the forum is very slow to respond to refresh, to post, to anything. It is by far the worst I have seen it ever !  Can someone please check into it and see what the problem is? Thank you.

No live feed for more than 24 hours

On the chance that none of the technical folks are aware that WildCam Africa has been having an extended problem of no live feed at all for over a day now, thought I would post this exchange from the Sightings & Sounds thread:

    "

    Jayell:

    glory:
just got home from work and in reading back do you think everyone could be at Paul's funeral and put  PP on re-run?

No, Afke posted before she left sayong that Galeboe and Lopang would be manning the camera while she was away at Paul's funeral.  The problem is, all of the people who know what to do when the cam and/or computers act up are also away at the funeral.  There's nobody at Mashatu that G&L can call on who can help.

Yes, that's exactly what's happening.  And I am wondering if perhaps Galeboe & Lopang are unable to access the internet, and are unable to read this thread.  They may not even realize the rerun has been on for more than twenty four hours now.  Although it does occur to me now that it seems a little odd that no-one from National Geographic  or RealPlayer has noticed a problem, in all this time. "

If anyone who might be able to help, or who will know how to contact someone who might be able to help, reads this, this seems to be the logical place they might drop by.  And we really miss the Pond, so anything you can do would be appreciated.

    Re: Webcam page

I have been unable to view the cam in the external player for maybe two weeks.  I don't like watching the embedded player, but I can't usually do that anyway since I'm having most of the problems with that that others have described here, including the site crashing my computer, so I'm afraid to even try it now.  I don't understand why no one from NG has responded to any of this (or have I missed it?).  It just seems that no one cares.  This was my favorite of the African webcams, and it is lost to me now.

    Re: Webcam page

I am having the same problems of not being able to get through the commercials without it stalling out. Sometimes it stalls out during the NG lion commercial, sometimes during any one of the others. I have RP Mac 11, and it shows 1 Kbps when the commercials start, so there must be a problem with the rate in that area. Today I haven't been able to keep the Pond running more than an hour or so, and I keep having to deal with the restarting issues.

I am thankful the Pond is available all year now and hope this issue can be fixed. I get so much enjoyment out of watching.

Thank you to the techs that will solve the problems for us.

Went to the re-designed website: http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/wildcamafrica/

When I opened it, the player was there, the pre-roll with the Lioness started playing but stopped just over half way. FF doesn't help, and refreshing the page (tried it FIVE times) was not helping either. The page ended up like this:

This happened to me seven times yesterday.  On the eighth try, I was able to get directly to the Pond, without bumping into an ad or a blank page.  I don't know why.  But I do suspect that newcomers, attracted either by word of mouth or the award WildCam Africa won, are not trying eight times to get through.  Which is very sad.

I just spent 1 1/2 hours trying to get RP to load the pond. It did not matter if I used the addys I have saved to RP in my favs, or if I went to the main page. It would not load. I would get the lion 8 second clip and that was it. I finally used this addy to get it to load in RP, but it should not be this hard. :
