    That's Windows Movie Maker

    11/03/06

    Per colleen re videos

I open virtualdub, select video, compression, (choose the codec I want to use... usually microsoft mpeg 4 video codec 1), hit okay, hit file, open file, select the video I want to compress, open, go back to file, hit save as avi, name and save.   Later I go and delete the original that is in uncompressed format to free up space.

    I am using Screen Virtuoso

When I first posted about editing, you suggested the Movie Maker. The name rang a bell so I checked through all my programs and there it was. I probably received it with something else along with XP or Windows updates - I really don't know but it's been there for some time now.

Anyway, I looked into this and printed off all the instructions. I find that it will only edit at the beginning or the end of a video. Sometimes the middle gets messed up because Cam moves or critter leaves the frame or the critter stands still for a long time (eating up kpbs)or I am now taping something else on the same video which I want to keep.

Question:  How do I cut out the middle of a cam?

How do I convert from AVI to WMV?

I'm puter challenged on some of this stuff.....Lady

I think Carmen posted this response:

    1. Split. On the screen (WMM) where you can play the clips, there are two buttons, one is to take pictures and the second one is to split the clip into two clips.  You can split your clip any place you choose.

    2. Convert.  Once you have the desired clips on the storyboard, click on "Save to my computer", give a name to your file, click next, choose best quality and click next again.  The file will be converted to wmv.  You don't have to do anything else.

tiny pic quick and dirty photo posting

If your picture already has a URL, the easiest thing to do is to just post the URL and people can copy and paste it into their browser.  To make it show up in the message, put the URL between these two "tags": "IMG"http://WhatEverYourURLis"/IMG" - replacing the quote marks with [ ].  (Be sure not to include any blank spaces.)

If the picture doesn't already have a URL, the easiest thing to do is to go to TinyPic Video and Image Hosting: http://tinypic.com/

(They call it tiny pic because the URLs it gives are tiny, not the pictures.)  There you can type in a name for the file where it says to, then click "browse" and locate the picture on your computer.  Choose it and then click the upload button.  It will upload the file, and then give you a URL to use.  You can copy it and paste it into the message form here.

Quick and easy - no messing with creating a web page or a photo album.  Just upload the pict and receive a URL.

another way to change file associations

another way to change file associations, too.  Go to control panel > folder options > file types; scroll down to WMV and make sure it is associated with WMP.  If not click change and the option window will come up so you can select WMP.  I found I had to do this AND tell RP by manual configuration because RP kept doing what it wanted anyway.

You may want to make this same change for AVI.

to have wmv files open in wmp

to have .wmv files always open in WMP so that they won't interfere with the pond, do the following:

IN RP go to the infamous TOOLS menu: Tools > Preferences > Content > Media Types

Click manually configure media types for RP  and then click select

Scroll down to Windows Media section and make sure none of the boxes are checked. This will make sure your wmv files won't automatically open in RP.

If you DO NOT want your AVI files to play in RP (a good idea not so if you want to see a recording, it won't play in RP and upset your pond viewing), scroll to the MPEG and AVI video section and make sure the AVI Video box is NOT checked.

Using WMM the default player would be WMP but RP has a way of overtaking this when it installs on your computer. I found this by accident and it seems to work for me, but please remember, computer guru I am not and I certainly don't want to steer you wrong.

    converting videos

As mentioned before, you get your videos in avi format with SV.  Those files are huge and should be converted, both to upload to Youtube (unless file is very small, say secs), and to save space in your computer.

Another thing that you have to remember is that you can not upload videos longer than 10 minutes (in Youtube) or larger than 100 MB.

    To convert:

    1. Go to Start, Programs, Accesoires, choose Windows Movie Maker (WMM).

    2. Click on Import video (wait till you see clip(s)

    3. Drag and drop (left ckick, hold and drag) the desired clips into the storyboard.  You can also edit the video but let's keep it simple now.

    4. Check if all the (desried) clips are in the storyboard (you can do so by hitting the play button)

    5. Click on "Save to my computer".  Give a name to your video and choose the folder where it should go, click next. Choose best quality, click next.  This will convert your avi file into a wmv file.  Depending on the size of the file how long it will take to convert.

    You can do the following:

    1. Import the video into WMM

    2. Probably you will have a multiple clips.  Click on the first one clip.  On the screen you can see how long the clip is.  Drag clips to the storyboard untill you have no more than 10 minutes of video.  Click Save to my computer, give name to the movie plus for example "Part I".  Convert it.  Once it has been converted click "finished".

    3. This will take you back to your imported video.  Clean storyboard by clicking on the clips there, right click and choose delete.  Your storyboard should be empty before you start dragging clips for the second part, third part and fourth part.

    3. Once you finished converting close WMM.  It will ask you if you want to save changes, click no.  Now you will have for wmv videos and your avi movie.  I get rid of the avi files.  I have no idea if you want to keep it...it is up to you.

How to get video on YouTube

    Name: LAP
    E-mail: Not specified

    Per Pat - NJ

    Using basic Screen Virtuoso….

Have to convert avi extension before can upload to youtube.

Open Windows Movie Maker (WMM) and under file, click on "import into collection".
If you see a choice to import in clips, check that box.  You'll then have to browse to where your AVI file is and click on it.

It should come into WMM and fill the boxes with "clips" of your video. Since your video is short, it may be only one clip. Don't worry. Click on the clip (picture) then, if there's more than one clip, go to edit, click on select all.  All the clips will be highlighted.  Then under clip (on the file menu) click on Add to storyboard.  All your "clips" should then appear along the bottom horizontally.

On the storyboard, make sure you click the reverse button so it goes to the first clip.  If you look at the movie window, underneath it will say how long your video is.  If you click on the play arrow you can watch your video.

If you're happy with it, go to File and then click on "Save Movie File". A window will come up where you name your movie - I pick something easy like ellie 11-24-06 or something like that and say where you want to save it - I use My videos. The next window will ask how to save it, click Best for my computer & there it goes!

    Then upload to YouTube……

    TO MAKE AN ANIMATION PER WILDROSE;

I record the stream, take progress snapshots, then crop/convert images.
Then I use Animation shop, which is a part of Paint Shop Pro 7 (Not sure if it's included in later versions or not) Load the images as seperate frames, then save as a Gif, which then animates.
