The lastest on Kakadu Cam: we have technical personnel in the field this week, upgrading the power for the camera. The delay in these system upgrades has been due to weather: the new camera was installed in January...during the rainy season! At that time, we realized that we would need to increase the solar panel array that powers the camera, but alas, the camera site was under 1 meter of water. Which would make it difficult enough, except that that water was also home to saltwater crocodiles-- not very helpful when you're trying to work on a tower with only a small boat between you and them!
So, we have been waiting on Mother Nature: for the rainy season to end and the billabong to dry out, to allow technicians to do the necessary upgrades--safely. That is now happening, and should be completed in time to watch the myriad birds and animals that should start congregating at the billabong as the area continues to dry out.
In the meantime, we've recently uploaded a new highlights video, to introduce you to both the cultural and natural history aspects of Kakadu National Park. Enjoy!
