    Torre NGS:

    Hello, Patient Pondies,

Just heard the latest from Pete:  they hope to get parts delivered to the Pond over the weekend; with luck, Pete can then get everything re-assembled on Monday or Tuesday.

So, if all goes well, MAYBE we'll get a live feed back on Tuesday or Wednesday.   Keep your fingers crossed, and wish Pete luck!

     thanks,

    Torre

Thanks, Torre.... We're being as patient as pondies can be....

Re: Help ! IE is taking over my computer....

    LAP:

Ad-Aware ran and is ok. Virus scan came up clean. TxB suggested the following....

LAP:    TxB, I ran my Ad-Aware and the problem is still there. So, now I am running my virus scan. It will take a loooooonnnnnngggggg time before it is done. This is really strange though. I only get that error message on the NG threads. Not on Djuma or Africam or any other site I have tried going to... Well, anyway, I will check this virus scan in a couple of hours and see if it is done yet. See ya later... Thanks for the assist....

TxB:   Lap, I think it is the NG site. It started doing it to me but down at the very bottom of the page you will see some very very faint tiny boxes just under the slider bar. Click on those little boxes until you come to the turn off popup blocker and turn it off. It will bleep one more time but will stop after that.

Tried clicking on the little boxes and found the blocker. I think it is working correctly now....

Thank you TxB ! Little miracle worker, you are !

EDIT: %&#*#$^#*@#(@ Spoke too soon.... it only works through 3 refreshes...then it goes back to beeping me... ! Yikes !    Anybody have Bill Gates home phone number?

FYI - To anyone who has the same problem.... I just wanted to let you know that today, 03/06/08, I had the same problem for most of the morning. I tried everything again and again, and could not get rid of the error message and it still beeped at me every time.... Then, it would only do it once in a while.... and now this evening (fingers crossed and knock on wood) it is not doing it at all. I think IE was messing with their stuff and somehow put a glitch in the works yesterday.

    Thanks for the help...

     hehehe...

Help ! IE is taking over my computer....

This just started at 4:40 PM today. Every time I refresh on one of the NG forum threads I get a pop up error message on my tool bar that says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options..." The options are to Download, What's the Risk, or Information Bar Help. What it is actually doing is keeping the advertisements at the top of the pages from showing, which would be fine, except it is slowing down the refresh and it beeps every time it happens. I have gone in under Tools and Pop Up Blocker Settings and turned off the bleepity, bleep, bleep beeper, but the bleepty thing keeps beeping at me. How do I stop this? I have even tried adding the NG addy to the Pop Up Blocker list to accept, and that did not work either.... I have always had Pop Ups okay on my Google tool bar for the NG sites. Never had this problem before. HELP !

Thanks for any help I can get here.

     hehehe...

Torre, since we hang around from the time that the ponds shuts down until it starts up again some 6 or 7 months later this wait is a piece of cake. We'll be here when you are ready to go.  And thank you for all of the hard work that is going on behind the scenes.

Thanks so much for the update, Torre.  Your message has now been posted on both the Sightings and Sounds and the Sights and Sounds and Chat thread.

    We're hanging in there!

Update on new Pete's Pond camera system: 3-5-08

    Hello, Folks,

The latest word on the satellite equipment at Pete's Pond is that one component has been repaired, and another will be replaced.  We are in the process of getting hold of the latter.  It may be a few more days; getting hold of parts overseas, and then getting them into the hands of the people who need them, isn't always easy....and isn't always quick (as I'm sure you already know!).

Thanks much for your continued patience.... and dedication to WildCam.

     take care,

    Torre

    Re: forum issue

Hi Mary, I did the disk cleanup and all the cleaning things and still get that message. When I use my IE toolbar to check email and then come back to the forums from the same link bar...The error comes up and then I have to click on forums to get them to come up. Do you think I should delete and redo the link?? Maybe it glitched when the forum was being worked on

    Thanks  Rita

    Hi Rita,

Are you still having problems getting back to the forums or has the issue been resolved? I'm not getting the same error.

Please let me know if the this continues to be a problem for you.

    Thanks,

    Mary

    WildCam Africa Update and more...

    Hello everyone,

The WildCams Program has hit some snags. Consequently, viewing will not resume anytime soon. It is my understanding that you will be hearing from our program manager, Torre Stockard. She will provide details about camera repairs and ongoing technical issues at Pete's Pond. Torre will also address the scope and status of other National Geographic cams.

    Take care,

    Mary, NGS

    Webcam Update.

    Mary,

Is there any news on Pete's Pond Cam?  There is a lot of speculation on the forums and I was just curious how things were going.  As an IT person myself I know that things can be tough and the unexpected ALWAYS happens.  :)

Any info or status would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all the NG staff, Afke and the techies for trying to get us 'pond junkies' back on line.  Your work is truly appreciated.

    Huli.
