    Dear Jayell.

In regards to community members first having to upload their files to a file sharing site; we are aware of this.  We will get you an answer to your question on this matter as soon as we can and address it within the FAQs; we are still looking into this aspect.  Thanks for your patience as we sort things out.

    Best,
    Lisa

While you are STILL looking into this and sorting it out.... wouldn't it be right/fair to re-instate the so said offenders.  ESPECIALLY since they were given no warnings.  Seems only right to me.

Cheers or...not so cheery right now.

    Dar

    Dear Jayell.

Thank you for your questions in response to our latest post on where we are with copyright issues.  We appreciate your speedy reply!

Also, you asked about continuing to post in the WildCam forums under the parent URL of "http://forums.ngm.com/.  Yes, you can post in any of the topic threads and forums throughout the WildCam Community site.  As you alluded to, you will see that the URLs of all web pages within the WildCam Community site begin with "http://forums.ngm.com/...."

As always, great to hear from you!

    Dear Lisa,

I appreciate all the effort you and other NGS staff have put into resolving the copyright concerns.  I look forward to reading the new FAQ section when it is developed and posted.

Thank you all for allowing us to continue posting screenshots and videos.  So far, I have had not any problems with YouTube or Internet Archive (OurMedia) accepting my videos, nor with Photobucket or tinypic accepting my screenshots or GIFs.  I will continue as you advised to upload and post these on this forum.

Thank you for your help. Smile

    Cheers!

    Re: Copyright? Clarification?

    Lisa NGS:

In the meantime, you may continue with your posting of WildCam screenshots and videos in this WildCam Community site (http://forums.ngm.com/).

A FAQ is a good idea, but I'd like to clarify a couple of things.  You do realize, don't you, that in order to post screenshots and videos in the Forum, we must first post them on file sharing sites such as TinyPic, Photobucket and YouTube.  In 2005 I posted 3 small jpeg picture files on the personal web space allocated by my ISP.  Within 24 hours my ISP had notified me that my picts had received some huge number of "hits" and I had exceeded the bandwith allocated to me, therefore they were shutting down my web space till the end of the month.  That was the end of my posting of pictures until coming across TinyPic in 2006.

The other thing is that when you say we can continue to post on the forum, that means in the usual topics that we have been posting them, not just in the URL "http://forums.ngm.com/", right?

Thanks for your attention to the matter of posting screenshots and videos. Smile

Dear Community Members (and especially Nancy, Lynty, Eleanor NYC, LAP, KC Mary, Deb, EMC, Shoebutton, HPalmer, Dutch Eagle Fan, and Rita),

Many thanks for your patience as we have continued to look into the questions you've shared concerning National Geographic's policy on content posting.  As a response to the issues you have raised, we are going to develop a FAQ section that will address your questions.  We will be posting this FAQ section on the WildCam Community web site.  We will get back to you with further information on when and where the FAQ section will be posted.

In the meantime, you may continue with your posting of WildCam screenshots and videos in this WildCam Community site (http://forums.ngm.com/).  We certainly enjoy seeing all of the animals that you catch on camera!

Thank you, as always, for being such committed and creative fans of the WildCam program.

    Best,
    Lisa

    Hi, Mary,

Thank you for following up on this.  We are continuing to post videos to YouTube until we hear otherwise from NG.

    Thanks, Nancy

PS. Discovered that National Geographic itself uses YouTube to host video clips that they show on the NG web site.

Okay, it has been some time since anybody posted here - has the copyright issue been resolved???  I just posted a couple of short videos at YouTube and they went up, but they have this huge warning in a big yellow box and I just want to make sure it is ok.

    Hello Everyone.

Thank you for your support and patience in this matter.  Just wanted to check in with you to let you know that unfortunately I still do not have a concrete answer for you in regards to your concerns.  However, I am talking to the right people, and one positive result is that everyone I'm speaking with is really appreciative of the fact that you are taking such great images and video of the program.

I will circle back up with you at the end of the week after Thanksgiving when everyone is back in the office.  Hopefully I will have some news.

A very happy Thanksgiving Holiday to all of you!  I hope you enjoy your time with friends and family.

Transmission from Botswana appears to be down

Hi Lisa, - sorry to trouble you about this but the camera appears not to be sending from Botswana to wherever it goes to reach our computer screens:)) Is there anything you can do - pass this on to the technicians and ask them to have a look-see please? Last night Afke reported from the hide that the camera did periodically do it's own thing and would then lose it's autopan settings and go on it's own merry dance. A little while after that transmission disappeared and we had the taped version playing. It has been playing since then. The person at the hide, I think someone new, indicated this afternoon that the camera was working there but I certainly am unabe to view it live. Any help would be appreciated - thanks :)

    Hi Lisa!

Thanks so much for your reply and all your efforts regarding this matter.  Let's hope for a poive solution!  I have been taping like a madwoman and it would be next to impossible to upload all those videos again, since YouTube does not have a batch uploader.

I am very pleased indeed that you enjoyed the Mashatu Bird Guide.  It already needs an update but that will have to wait till PP is over!

    Cheers,

To help you in your endeavors to obtain a favorable solution, I've asked everyone I know to cross their fingers, say prayers, and/or send positive thoughts into the universe!

I am so glad you enjoy Pete's Pond Spaces.  Carmen will be pleased to hear that you liked her Mashatu Bird Guide.  I plan to put together a Mashatu Mammal, Reptile & Amphibian Guide before next season starts.

We here at the WildCam Program appreciate all that you do to support our program.  We’re especially thrilled that you find these video highlights so valuable in your enjoyment and even teaching of the WildCams.

I am still trying to figure all of the nuances of this issue within the National Geographic Society and the other business units here.

I hope to have a favorable solution/answer to you shortly.  I appreciate your continued patience.  And, as always, it is great to hear your thoughts on this matter. Please stay tuned, but hopefully for not much longer.

    All the best,
    Lisa

PS  Please know that we do see how serious and frustrating an issue this is for you, and are doing are best to resolve.

PSS To Carmen and Nancy -- I, myself, am a fan of your Pete's Pond Spaces!  Such wonderful information.  I recently enjoyed viewing the Bird Guide.

    To keep everyone informed ...

I sent Lisa/NGS the following PM one week ago, hoping to get a response about our concerns.  Unfortunately, I have received no reply from her as of yet.  Perhaps she is on vacation, but it is hard to not be disappointed that we have heard nothing.

    Hi Lisa,

I'd like to consult with you about some concerns that Carmen and I have.  I don't know if you have had time to read the Wildcam Africa Forum, but we voiced these concerns about two weeks ago in a new thread titled "To Lisa & NGS/NGM re: copyright concerns with videos":

    Cheers!

The two video's are re-activated now. But it still would be very appreciated if we "Pondies" could have a re-assurance from National Geographic about this matter.

For the past three years there has not been any problem about the copyright issue, as far as I am aware of.

I think the Google team may have assumed that my video's were made with material from documentaries made by National Geographic.

That would have been illegal of course.

Whew! That is a relief. Maybe on future videos the title page should include the fact that the video is from the cam? Just a thought....

     hehehe...
