    Paige, there is no free video capture for OS10. Might be for OS 9, I don't know.

    Well, there are a couple, but they are rated very poorly by those who have tried them - difficult to use and not well documented.  There are some very reasonably priced shareware applications, though, and you can try them for free before deciding whether to pay.

    I, too, have been watching Pete's Pond on my 7 year old mac. I've had no problems at all with my viewing other than those that have originated at the pond or in Real Player. The only issue I have is that my computer is so old and slow (even with cable modem) and short on memory that running other programs while watching the pond takes a bit longer.

    I have PCs in the school where I teach, but the network won't allow Real Player to work. The tech support folks have tried, but after two years I've stopped asking. Such a loss that I can't share it with my students.

    There's another browser choice, available from the same place as Firefox (mozilla.org), called Camino. It's the Mozilla guts inside a much more Mac-like shell, and it's FAST, especially on forums with as much gratuitous graphic foofaraw as this one. Stick out tongue [:P] Some of you might like it better than Firefox or Safari. I'm using it now; as you can see, icons and smilies work fine.

    Safari is a fine browser, as long as you're content with Apple's "my way or the highway" philosophy. Not very flexible. The main attraction of Firefox is the bajillion free extensions people have written for it--the possibilities are astounding.

    In most Mac browsers, control-click on the video (or right-click if you have a 2-button mouse) and one of the options will be Play in RealPlayer. That will open RP, in which you can bookmark Pete's Pond as a Favorite. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a way to get RP10 to load a feed automatically on startup, as OS9 versions could. No biggie, but if you've got a secret method, Anne, please share!

    FSH, if you ctrl-click on the video that's in the webpage, a menu should pop up with the option to open the link in RealPlayer.

    Another Mac user here. I have a Real Player link on my desktop that's on my start up menu so the pond comes up when I turn my computer on every morning. I usually access the forum in Safari since I have the RSS feed for Sightings. Wouldn't trade my Mac for a PC EVER!

    Seems I can't get my fingers in the right keys! That should be Anne in SC and access does indeed have another "s" on the end. Duh!!!

    I'm a mac user. I use Safari and have no problems. I am able to make screen shots which I learned how to do last year while watching the pond. I love learning the different things my mac can do. Real player is an icon on my desktop and plays in it's own small screen. I have not been able to get a direct real player link for watching the polar bears or Australia. When I want to look at those I have to watch the real player screen on the NGM sites for those webcams. Anyone know how to find those links on real player? I have tried and they don't come up.

    Hello. My name is Susan and I am a Macoholic and a Pondoholic.

    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things made for P.C.s;
    the courage to try them on my Mac;
    and the wisdom to know when to give up.

    Yes, Beth, I have been VERY pleased with the improved image since the bit rate went back up to 250 Kbps.  I'm afraid to say that on the Sightings forum, because then we get a whole stream of consciousness about free cameras versus free speech!  I do tend to keep the clip info window open so I can see if the rate is slipping and reboot.

    how to capture a screenshot with a mac

    For mac users, the capture of a screenshot is different than for a PC.

    So for newbies who haven't done it before. To capture the whole screen, press control(open apple) shift, and 3 all at the same time.
    Your pic is now on your desktop.

    To capture a specific scene or the cam pic at 1x. Press control, shift, and 4 all at the same time. Your cursor is now changed shape. It looks like a circle with a X thru it. Place this on the upper left of what you want to capture. Then drag to the opposite corner , lower right, and let go.

    You can drag and hold and wait to release when it's just right.
    When you release, the pic is now taken and stored on your desktop.
    (I must admit I haven't tried the tinypic.com to see if it will work on a mac. )
    After it is on your desktop, you have to use a program to upload it and then post. I use Photobucket. check for the thread titled such and follow the directions there.

    Sue, Peyton, Judith,
    welcome to our new support group. Yes, I know there are more, hope they'll see this and sign on.

    Everyone getting the pond alright now? I use Safari, tried Firefox but I have a scroll wheel and my son got me to using it. If I use it on the Firefox, my pages goes all over the place. So for now I'm sticking with Safari.
    I understand that with Firefox you can use the smilies on this forum and have a live link. On safari, neither of those can be done on this forum.
